DECLARATION OF INTENTIONS AND ITS CONSEQUENCES.

L'Avenc is a family home with self-catering cottages and open to cultural events. We try our best to be environmentally-friendly.  We have made a great effort in restoring the house to its former glory by using the original building materials, have introduced renewable energy in the form of solar panels, we try to be careful with water and waste, and to think about what we buy, which in the case of food is either organic, local or free-range, because animal-welfare matters to us. When we can we serve vegetarian food. We would like you to feel at home in a homely, animal-friendly, sustainable environment.  We strive to keep noise to the minimum (although some building work may be on-going during the week), and are proud of our underground car-park which removes vehicles from the view, keeps them cool in the summer and warm in the winter, we would like to feel that l’Avenc is part of its surroundings. The forest, cliffs and pastureland has lots to teach us, lots to listen to, and lots to watch in the peace and quiet of Nature.

THEREFORE WE ASK YOU TO HELP US BY:

-Not having loud conversations between 10 pm and 10 am in the morning and by being especially quiet alter midnight and before 8.00. This will ensure a good night’s rest for everyone.
-Respecting the family areas and anyone who is working in or around l’Avenc.
-Not littering the surrounding area or countryside. Remember that cigarette ends end up in the streams and reservoirs.  
-Helping us to look after L’Avenc, which is a listed building and restored with great care.
-Using only as much water and electricity as you need. Leaving a tap a running when you are cleaning your teeth is a waste, as is leaving lights on when you are out for the evening.
-Thinking about what we eat and how it is produced. Animal welfare matters to us and how well both domestic and farm animals are treated is extremely important to us. We feel that even spiders have their place and it is as much their home as ours. If anything worries you let us know.
-Being considerate to other residents or visitors at L’Avenc, helping us to make everyone feel at home and comfortable whether they be working or on holiday.
-Putting your car away in the garage as soon as you have unloaded where it will keep cool in summer and warm in winter thus also saving air-conditioning and heating and its absence will keep the countryside uncluttered and beautiful. We are happy to help you unload or take and fetch the car if needed.
-On you walks you may want to listen to the silence of the woods and let your eyes feast on the views. This may help you to feel renewed and in tune with the world.
